Okay...let's say a fellow piper was looking to buy his first Rattray's blend, what would it be?

What say you PSU?

It depends on what kind of toby you like to smoke. I really like their Accountant's Mixture and Hal 'O the Wynd. that covers you for both a full English, and a VA/Per or VA.

Depends on what you are looking for.... Red Rapparee is probably the best known, but if you don't like orientals you'd hate it.

Old Gowrie and Marlin Flake are good too.... Accountant's is fine, but not especially remarkable to my palate....

+1 on HOTW, one of my favorite smokes ever. Old Gowrie is excellent as well, but I think people tend to favor one or the other, probably based on which one they smoked first.

I used to like their English blends, like 3 Noggins, 7 Reserve, and Professional Mixture, a little more than I do now. Nothing wrong with them, but I've just found other things that impressed me more.

Oddly, I still haven't got round to trying Red Rap, but it's on my list. Incidentally, JR Cigars is the place to go for these. Twelve bucks for 100g tins!!

Well RR, Old Gowrie and HOTW are 3 I've noted folks most often mention..but that 7 Reserve sounds like a good choice for someone who doesn't like heavy lat?!? Is that the case?

Herb, thanks for the tip on JR Cigars. Never ordered from them...until now. Picked up several assorted tins.

I just opened a tin of Red Rap last Friday, and it's all I've been smoking these past few days. It's definitely a lovely oriental, and I am very impressed with the quality of the leaf. All the bowls have smoked down to a fine white ash, regardless of which pipe I used. I think I'm adding a few more Rattray tins to my cellar!

Rattrays "Trinity" is HOTW, OG, & MF......that is if you like va's

I like all of the Rattrays i've smoked which includes the above, and

HIghland Targe
Black Mallory
Dark Fragrant
7 Reserve
3 Noggins

For a lighter va, Brown Clooney is good too! But nobody beats JR for price! Even at $70/# bulk at other e-tail merchants, doing the math, $72 will get 6 - 100 gm tins (600 gm) vs 450-500 gm of the bulk! The tins are steel (not aluminum, or high strength paper walled cans) and it's already for the cellar!

They're all good! If you don't like a particular blend, trade it off! Someone will be glad to take it off your hands. :)

I'll put in another vote for HOTW. Pungently intoxicating? Intoxicatingly pungent?

Eh, take your pick. It's darn good.
