Same as the VA/Per thread. What are your favorites? Mine are as follows:

McC Christmas Cheer (I think quite a few of us will post this ;) )
McC Blakeney's Best Tawny Flake
McC Epitome
McC Aurora

You can see I have only truly tried McC blends. My real reason for asking this question is to add others to my TAD list. :D

Don't forget the your favorite Burleys thread :)

But as for VA's. . .being a hoarder off MacB blends. . .their BH Matured Virginia tops my list. Then probably McClelland's Christmas Cheer.

I've been meaning to try backwoods. My local shop tells me McC does the best VA's. I usually walk out with penzance instead.

Bob, I picked up a tin of union flake at the Columbus show and have yet to open it. Maybe I should do that today....

Mark, I forget things all the time. The trouble with having so many good tobaccos in the cellar.

Hamborger Veermaster w/o a doubt.
McC's 5100

There's a few Va/Burleys I really like but for straight Va's that's pretty much it.

Is Solani Silver Flake considered a Va? That stuff is freakin' terrific.

Looking at TR.com I'd say it's not a straight VA, but a VA blend. It's a blend of red and bright VA's and Kentucky. It sounds good though.

As far as straight VA's go, the list is pretty short.

SG FVF
SG BBF
GLP Union Square

Most VA's I smoke have burley, kentucky or perique in the mix

Definitely SG FVF. It has everything I want in a straight Va. Full strength, full body, hints of grass/hay and subtle notes of chocolate and coffee that become more pronounced with age. Three to five years of age produces a blend that mellows slightly in body, yet retains the nic strength that I love. 5-10 years creates a heavenly smoke of rich chocolate and coffee, with a less pronounced nic kick and a diminished body. There are things I like about various vintages, which is why I keep on hand tins dating from 1999 all the way up to 2009.

OK folks, I give.
What is GAF?

I've seen it in the past, somethin' to do with gorillas?

Markw4mms
05-01-2012, 21:20
Brian, it's Dunhill Flake, aka Gorilla Ass-crack Flake.

Now there has got to be a story behind that one!
LOL, Howinthehell did Dunhill Flake get tagged GAF?

I have been investing a blend that was brought to my attention called Boston 1776. described as lemon, orange, & red va. Sounds like a must try for me. anyone familiar ?

@ Brian... From what I understand, it came about from a guy posting that he loved Dunhill Flake so much, he'd smoke it even if it came out of a Gorillas ass-crack, and the name GAF has stuck ever since.

Puff The Magic

I don't believe Puff would smoke actual "Ass-Crack Flake" of any beast. If whomever blended it, Dunhill Flake, had called it GAF rather than Flake.....Puff'd still have over 50 tins of it cellar'd!

A rose by any other name doth smell as sweet....;)
