Talk about the right place at the right time Carl.
That's a low winning bid for a Peterson listing ending on a weekend! Good score

Well, I have the buffing machine, the Tripoli, White Diamond, Carnauba wax, various grades of sandpaper, bleach, whiskey, new Castleford 5 Piece Multi-Fit reamer (for $8.95 another bargain) etc etc so I'm sure I can get it looking pretty pristine again :)

I'll spend a few days working on it before I fire it up.

Maybe both - maybe neither - not sure yet.

Ok guys,

Here she is after a little brush up on arrival.

I didn't have to do much as George sent it in great condition.

Here is all I did on arrival.

1. Reamed out the bowl lightly.
2. Ran bristle brush pipe cleaners through the shank dipped in whiskey
3. Bleached the stem for 30 mins just t see if there was any oxydisation that needed sanding
4. Ran bristle brush pipe cleaners through the stem dipped in whiskey
5. Buffed the stem with White Diamond.
6. Buffed the stem with Carnauba Wax
7. Buffed the bowl with Carnauba wax.
7. Final buff whole pipe with soft cloth.

Here is the result :)

This latest one Carl, was that the 998?

Carl

Ya know, I've looked around a few places and as yet to find a reference to that shape number.
I saw the pic you had put up, 998 no doubt.

It seems that there are shapes, the given shape numbers any way, that vary depending on the country being exported to. What you have certainly looks like a 999.

Nice looking pipe Carl

Carl

If you put the 998 and 999 side by side you can see the difference. The shank reaches slightly higher on the bowl on 999. I think the 999 shape came later. I'm not 100% sure. I may ask the guys over on the IPPC board (Jim or Chuck) if they know exactly what the differences in shape and age are.

While your at it Carl, had you a chance to ask about the unique stem logo (http://www.pipesmokerunleashed.com/forum/showthread.php?242-Peterson-stem&p=2013&viewfull=1#post2013) that Wizard had posted?

Carl

Yeh, it seems (although still waiting for confirmation) that the ring around the logo was a special for a pipe shop in Germany so that makes them pretty unique. I am going to try and grab it when George puts it up. The Dublin range is not one of their high grade ranges but for collect-ability it is worth me adding it as one of my non-smoking Pete's
