Are Icon Legends functional?

I see that the Icons denote whether I've read a thread before, but both the read and unread Icons look the same. Is there a setting somewhere that I should activate?

Les I don't know what to tell you. When I click on a thread and read it, then go back to to main forums it still shows as unread. I have just learned to live with it, lol.
