Just snagged this lot. Not much info on the listing, but at 27 ($43) delivered I'm happy to take a chance.

Golly. That's a nice batch of briars. Have no idea of what make they are, but the shapes look well done and the proportions all seem really good. Cool finishes. What's not to dig? If just one or two turn out to be great smokers you got a sensational bargain.

Can't tell what sort of shape they're in, stem, bowl, etc. but I have faith in your skills. Keep us posted, Chiz.

Nice haul. I'd like to take a wild guess and say the second from the top is a
'Roland". I've never guessed anything correctly so please let me know if I am still batting 100%.

Second from bottom looks exactly like a Sav 413. I paid $18 US for my estate 413, and it has been a great smoker. It's actually dedicated to Half and Half ATM.

Nice haul!

Chiz you manage to snag some wonderful batches of pre-owned Briar, looks like a handful of great smokers to me, I do wonder, are you trying to build a large collection for yourself or are you hoping to sell pipes on after refurbishing them, both are perfect excellent reasons, I'm curious is all my friend. :gimmefive:

I do wonder, are you trying to build a large collection for yourself or are you hoping to sell pipes on after refurbishing themIt's a bit of everything, Kirk.

I have discovered that I find cleaning up old pipes and making them look and smoke well again is highly therapeutic, so that is my main motivation for acquiring them.

Having gotten hold of them, of course there is the question of what to do with them afterwards! So I have decided to keep just a few select specimens and the remainder I will sell on. I have in fact moved on a few already via eBay. This is far from a profit-making venture, but as I recycle funds I can continue to buy and thus keep the hobby going.

I realise that I should not advertise on here, but I hope it is OK to illustrate with a listing of mine which has ended: http://tinyurl.com/necz7qk

It's a great idea for keeping your hobby going Chiz, I don't have any issues with links to such things myself but Moderation isn't my field Chiz so I can't say one way or the other on the link. :smoking2:

The staff had a discussion about posting things for sale a while back, and although I don't think a new policy has yet been put in place, I don't think any of us had a problem with regularly contributing members occasionally posting a link for a sale. We mainly wanted to avoid people using the site for free advertising and nothing else. Nonetheless, I would defer to Paul or Jeff for a definitive ruling.

OK, they have arrived. And a right motley bunch!

Three of them are rather interesting though, stamped "R. MARTIN, LITCHBOROUGH" of Blakemar Briars fame. This includes the one second from the top, which Tom guessed at as a Roland.

The one second from bottom, which Etph thought might be a Savinelli, is in fact a rather nice Dr. Plumb with a broad oval shank and stem.

Bringing up the rear are two "Cool & Sweet" made in Czechoslovakia and a no-name.

Nice lot just the same and seem to be in pretty good condition, really like the 2nd from the top one.
