View Full Version : Favorite Pipe Maker?

Bob

I have a collection of many different pipe makers, but my favorite pipe makers are Cavicchi, Ashton, Stanwell, and Savinelli. Other favorite, but unfortunately unobtainable is Bo Nordh and Tom Eltang. Who are your favorite pipe makers?

Savinelli and Bjarnes make up the majority of my collection. I had a couple of Pete's that were "duds" but I gave them another chance and the 2 I have put them on the "like" list.

Upper Ends: I'm not sold on my Jake Hackert, but I really like my Randy Wileys.

On the wish list:
Cavvichi, Ardor, Stanwell, Radice, just to name a few.

I would have to go with whatever I can afforded. But I like my Pete just wish it did not have a p-lip.

3 Pete's due here this week from eBay auctions. Looking forward to them arriving. So you could say I'm a bit of a Pete fan.

Love my P-lip Pete and the new(to me) fishtail ROC I recently picked up.

Oddly I have a $32 La Rocca Marco Dublin that is a FANTASTIC smoker which I will never give up...

As you can see, at the moment I'm on a Pete kick.

These 3 beauties: (you can see the before final cleaning shots a few posts above - they show my initial clean and the below show my final buffing and waxing after my buffing machine, White Diamond and Carnauba Wax arrived.)

A 998 arriving tomorrow and I also have my eye on a couple more :)

I think that unless someone forces another pipe maker's pipe into my hand then Pete's are going to be my speciallity

Though I guess it is more on my wish list since I do not own one yet, I love the Nording! In my collection, I will probably go with my Savinelli

I have a Nording that I bought over 30 years ago, it's one of my favorite pipes. I'd say go for it, you can't go wrong, but I also say the same about Savinelli, so either way, you win in my book.

I'd have to say for the past couple of years and growingly more and more fond of his work, my choice is Mark Tinsky.

Although Missouri Meerschaum comes in a very close second since MM and I go back to my early teenage years.

Puff.....smokin' a MM now....as old as me!:P

eh.. I am still trying to figure it out. So, far my better smokes have been with my Parker, Archer, Kaywoodie and a cob.
However; I still have a few to try that are lying in my estate-to-be-cleaned basket.

Nice Canadian on there .....nice everything on there. Don't really have a favourite because at the drop of a penny I like them all. Pushed I would have to say that more of Mr. Moretti's work ought to be in my collection.

Out of interest, what is it about his pipes that makes him your favourite pipe maker?

Good sturdy pipes with a great feel in the hand always well engineered and always great smokers, you can get one of his pipes handmade to your own spec for under 100 ( even with a silver band ) and he's a great at communicating with you on your order.
Only downside is you have to wait 8-10 weeks for your pipe as he's a very busy man but if your willing to wait that long you will have a great pipe!
I'm sure Jimbo will back me up on this as will others.

Keep away from EBAY! one user seems to buy them from Ian direct, double's the price and then add an extra 30% on to that.

I've just been browsing at some fine pipes on the site and must admit I'm very tempted. Maybe I'll have a bespoke design made for my special birthday next year instead of buying a birth year pipe.
