A friend of mine sent me this pipe as a Christmas gift. It's a Dr. Grabow Silver Duke that belonged to Ed.

The stem is broken and has been taped together. My friend's idea was that I might like to keep it, as is, in the shop as a memento of Ed. I considered that for a while but I think Ed, being a pipe repairman himself, would have preferred to see the pipe repaired and put back into action. So, that's the current plan. Rather than a straightforward repair and restoration, I'd like to do something special with it to honor Ed's memory. I'm mulling over ideas. So, we'll see where it goes.

What about a auction with the proceeds going to his family or this web-site.

That's something that's definitely worth considering, Jon, but I have to admit to a bit of selfishness in this case. Ed was a good friend and I'd kind of like to hang on to it.

Auction is a nice idea, but I say you should keep it. (Not that I have a say, but that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.)

IMHO the pipe should be repaired, filled to the brim with CH and enjoyed in true Ed James fashion......

Do your wizard work on the pipe and then keep it. IMHO.
