    Bees

Went for a ride yesterday and caught a bug with a stinger in my right sleeve....

....coasted down the mountain until I saw a someone fishing while holding the offending insect in a wad of shirt with my left hand.

For those that don't ride should know you work the clutch with your left hand. Stopping was not going to be fun.

The fisherman was kind enough to take my helmet off so I could get my shirt off and we found at least 5 stings on my under arm and arm pit.

Found the closest store and bought some Benadryl for the ride home.

This was not the first time this has happened in all my years of riding, but it was the first time getting stung that many times at once.

Oh well take the good with the bad, I guess.

Thankfully you didn't run into a swarm and you were able to keep your cool with having been stung more than once.
I've had the dang things caught in my hair and taking a free right in a jacket pocket, either is no fun when found.

In all my years of bicycle touring this only happened to me once when on a trip in Washington State near Port Townsend. I've been hit plenty of times with most just bouncing off me. However this time it got lodged down my polo shirt and stung me on the top of my chest while I was free wheeling down a hill. Never actually saw what it was as it fell out the bottom of the shirt before I had a chance to stop and see what it was. Luckily the road was quiet so my panic induced erratic cycling didn't lead to an accident.

All part of the fun when you're on two wheels.

I'm glad that you're OK Jesla. When I was a kid I got hit right between the eyes with a very large dragonfly @ 40+ mph. I had green and yellow goo all over my face, a prodigious bruise on my forehead and a sore neck for awhile. It was worth it because I didn't lose control and had was left with a good story.

Wow, Jeff. Luckily or skillfully you were able to keep your composure and ride it out down until you were able to make the stop.

A few years ago, I took a big bug to the center of my helmet. Thank god I had the face shield down. It splattered all across the shield. Got to the next stop (there were 5 of us riding together) and cleaned it off. Damn bug actually scarred the face shield. The guy riding behind me said that it looked like I got shot in the head, and instead of blood it was a yellowish green cloud of crap that came up. Luckily, (so far) I haven't gone through a bee cloud.
    Take care and check six!
