Robert McConnells black parrot, pebble cut & celebrated sovereign.

From what I can make out there's different blends from mcConells available depending where you live.
Just noticed the above mentioned blends in Germany. Thought I'd ask if anyone on here has tried them?

Iím actually quite confused when it comes to these blends. Iíve tried the Pebble Cut but it was from the McClelland Ashton Revival series. Does McConnell still produce those 3 blends?

    Hello,

The three are available in Germany made by Kohlhase & Kopp. I've smoked Old London Pebble Cut and Black Parrot. From memory, PC is sweet and earthy, while in Black Parrot the Perique is more peppery than I've tasted in any other blend. Or rather, it's the only one I've ever tasted pepper in and felt it in my nose.

    Best wishes
    Markus

    Hello,

Every now and then I smoke the Black Parrot.
The perique content in this blend is more then moderately high.
I agree with Markus that this blend is quite peppery.
To enjoy this tobacco optimal it needs a slowly sipping. It is not suitable for heavy puffing.

I'm sure Hans used to sell this, judging by what Markus and Huub say's I wish I had taken the plunge and bought some of this.

I've been confused about this as well. I came to the conclusion that the rights to the Ashton name either transfered between McConnell and McClelland over the years, or perhaps they held the rights in different terrirtories, maybe a little of both. It seems that McConnell (K&K) produced or maybe still produces the blends after losing the Ashton franchise with their own name in place of Ashton's, but does not sell them in the USA (for whatever reason; a few other unrelated McConnell blends, like Red Roses, are not sold here, either). McClelland reportedly released the Ashton Revival series in 2010.

Thanks for the replies everyone! The only reviews I've seen on these blends related to the Ashton & mclellands versions, so it was nice to hear from Markus & huub especially, as they've had the mcConells. As a fan of their Scottish cake & flake, I'll definitely be trying these other blends.

Why youíre at it, Simon, pick up some Latakia Flake and compare it with Revor Plug. Iíd love to hear your thoughts on it. If ya like Revor Plug I would say there is a 99.9% chance youíll like Lat Flake.

Good shout hawky! I'd completely forgotten about that one. If it's only half as good as revor, it should still be a great smoke.
