    German beer recommendations please!

Hello there, I'm off to Berlin for a couple of weeks work. I know we have a few Germans on the forum, so I'm asking, what are the 'must try' beers the fatherland has to offer? Cheers! Simon.

Hey, Simon! I'm surprised that you haven't received any replies. I don't drink myself, but came up with a website that may interest you. Here's the link:

After all of the statistics and reports are finished with, I've come to the conclusion that the only real danger of smoking a pipe is being interrupted.

Thankyou gentlemen for the recommendations, but don't forget I'm over there to work first & foremost!
Cheers russ! That's a great list of beers, most of which I've never heard of. Whilst the list is long, I shall be there for a couple of weeks. Giving me ample time to have a good crack at it!

Jim, I thought Simon asked about beer, not milk.

While I'm one of the few Germans on here, I'm useless for beer recommendations. All I drink regularly is a bottle of alcohol free Clausthaler with Saturday dinner with the family. My last proper beer may well have been a local ale at the Canal house in Nottingham last year.

When I do drink a glass of beer, I do tend to like it. And I like trying new ones. The only one I remember not liking at all was Becks, which is quite bitter in taste. Becks is from Northern Germany. The list of 100 beers on that Web site above seems to be leaning heavily towards southern Germany. I can't say whether that's merited or not, but I do suppose the Bavarians believe they have the best of everything anyway...

    Best wishes
    Markus

I must confess, that influenced me when I was over there in 70/71. I tried to drink the country dry......

Tis a lovely photo! I just came back for another look. Lol.
Perhaps Markus will know, I just 'zoomed' in on the jug. Is that spaten munchen?

    Hello,

Yes, it appears to be Spaten, which also is German for spade.

The photo Yohanan posted already suggests that its indeed this beer.

    For the logo, see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatenbräu
For more info in English see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu

    Best wishes
    Markus
