Another Ropp Algerian late-bloomer from St. Claude

I just got it in the mail, my third Ropp Superior in Algerian briar. One of the trove of unfinished pipes from stummels that were turned in the 50s or even earlier. They were "rediscovered" and finished in modern times (as in a few years ago afaik). The Ropps that I have, the Superiors and the rest, have all proved to be great smokers, and this one looks like it may turn out to be the pack leader.

Whoa MOMMA!! That is a sweet one! I love my Ropp's, too-- but none is as nice as this one.

Terrific, Ed! After seeing your new Ropp, I went straight to SP to look at the Superior line.

After all of the statistics and reports are finished with, I've come to the conclusion that the only real danger of smoking a pipe is being interrupted.

Ropp has been very lucky to find those and the benefit is all yours.

There was one just like that when I pulled the trigger on this one. Bet that one's gone now.

I read an account of the trove discovery. Apparently it happened when Sykes Wilford visited some St. Claude warehouses. He bought the turned stummels and arranged to have them finished for importation and subsequent sale by Smokingpipes. I don't know if the saga played out exactly like that, but that's what I read a few years ago. However it happened, it's good.
