    Dunhill Tobaccos Selling Out

I just noticed that two big retailers, smokingpipes and Pipes and Cigars, are out of DF, DDF, and Elizabethan Mixture are sold out/backordered. This is looking like the end if it stays this way for long. DF is still available from marscigars right now and they may very well get my next order.

Yep. BAT originally said that there was already 12-18 months worth of supply in the pipeline. I think that was about a year ago. So, I think we're probably witnessing the event horizon.

I have to admit that this has once again set off the alarm bells in my head, it's my favourite all day smoke, Dunhill seem to want to distance themselves from all tobacco products calling their pipes The White Spot and now closing down tobacco production, A question I keep asking myself is would it be first feasible then possible that someone could buy out the rights to keep making these blends to the same recipe?

Wishful thinking on my part I wonder. ?????

It's an interesting question Ally. The tobaccos are made by STG, so in theory they could continue. Still using the Dunhill name, I doubt it. There should be a contest/poll for the best new brand name STG could use.

I don't think it's Dunhill that's making the call, Ally. It was BAT that decided not to renew their Dunhill license, not the other way around.

It's certainly feasible that someone else could pick up the license to manufacture if Dunhill is selling and the buyer is willing to pay their fee. I have heard, however, that they have been approached and the offer was rejected. I have no particularly pertinent inside information on that though. So, take it as nothing more than internet rumor for now.

If STG markets the same recipe under a new name, then it's off the table for those of us in the states per the new FDA regs. The only way that we could continue to get it would be if someone purchased the full license, name and all.
