    Greetings from Lancashire

    Hi,
I am pleased to join your forum.
I first smoked a pipe when I was twelve years old, over fifty years ago. I was helping my uncle to clear away some things when he came across an old pipe of his in good condition, I didnít even know he had been a pipe smoker in the past, and threw it away. I recovered it from the bin and a few days later bought some pipe tobacco from a shop in town. It was easier to do that in those days if you just said you were buying it for a relative. I went to a secluded places, filled my pipe with tobacco, lit it with a box of matches and started trying to smoke a pipe. I continued to smoke that pipe secretly on occasions. On my sixteenth birthday, I went to a specialist tobacconist in town and bought my first new pipe. He showed me how to fill and smoke it properly and gave me lots of information and literature on pipes and pipe smoking. I used to go to his shop on free weekends and we would chat and both smoke our pipes together.
My favourite tobacco is SG Best Brown Flake and Full Virginia Flake. I also like Condor and St. Bruno. My favourite pipe shape is a bent Rhodesian.
    Best wishes, Marc

Hey there, Marc! Welcome to PSU from Virginia, USA! I really enjoyed the pipe smoker origin story. Do you have any idea of what ever happened to your uncle's pipe?

After all of the statistics and reports are finished with, I've come to the conclusion that the only real danger of smoking a pipe is being interrupted.

Unfortunately, I did not know much about looking after pipes when I first started smoking a pipe. It got dropped and chipped, the rim got burnt and once the mouthpiece broke when I was in my early twenties, I discarded it.
