It wasn't my fault! It was all you guys buying pipes and talking about Brakner and other old Danish names. So I couldn't resist.

Here is the text by the seller

    'Peter Micklson - BRAKNER ANTIQUE
    Denmark, Mid-Scale Apple
    Micro “Antique” Finished Bowl
NEAR MINT Shape, A RARE FIND!

This is a rare early BRAKNER in his ANTIQUE finish, made by Peter Micklson. It’s a mid-sized apple with uniquely cut stem, in great shape. See below for his story, he worked with some of the Danish masters like Sixten Ivarsson and Ole Larsen (W.O. Larsen). The pipe is in really nice shape, with no noted wear to bowl or stem. The bowl has his secret Micro Rustication process used to create the Antique finish, and looks really nice. The stem has no tooth marks with slight under-cut to bit area to give it a nice look. Weight in about 1.25 ounces, draws well with draw hole about bottom center. Expertly reconditioned, polished and ready to smoke!

Markings: BRAKNER ANTIQUE, DENMARK; HAND-CUT 106
    Approximate Dimension
    Overall Length – 5 3/4”+
    Bowl Height – 1 5/8”
    Inside Diameter – 3/4”
    Weight - 1.25 ounces'

I don't think it is rare but it does look like it is in good shape.

Congratulations, Mark. You got yourself a beauty. I'm really happy if I'm partly to blame for your indulgence.

Unfortunately one see that misspelling of his real surname, all over the internet. Some native English-speaking person must have heard it and assumed that it is spelled 'Micklson' and everybody quote each other.
No Dane spells it like that; the correct spelling is 'Mikkelsen'.
(I apologize for my ranting, but I get carried away everytime I see it spelled wrong).

Wow, Mark, what a beauty! Congrats on one fine pipe. That "micro-rustication" finish is simply fantastic.

I don't think I've ever heard of this before but Russ is right, a classy looker.

Thanks Russ and Bill. If you go back a few posts in what's in your pipe, you'll see a beautiful stacked Brakner of SimonG's. And Jesper and I think Dave refer to him sometimes and also have examples. He was one of that first generation or so of great Danish pipebuilders who made pipes for established companies, including PipeDan and WO Larsen. I had never really gotten all that enthused by him until I saw the micro-rustication in these photos, which is very special and apparently was lost when he stopped making pipes.

I don't yet have it and it will take a week or two to arrive. More once I've smoked it.

Thanks Ludwig. Welcome To PSU. How does an Italian get a German name?

Thanks to Arvind as well, and welcome to you too. My sister just stopped by on her way back to Canada after her yearly winter stay for several months in Goa. I know it is far from Chennai but she has only positive things to say about India. I've never visited yet.

Well done Mark, I think you will find you have bought an excellent smoking pipe there. I've never had one that let me down.

Beautiful Brakner mark, good show! Can't blame me though, I've only got the one! The blame obviously lies with Jesper & Dave, they've got hundreds & are always showing them off! It was Dave or 'Dave the Bastard' as I affectionately think of him.(due to his impeccable taste & exemplary collection). He put on here somewhere PDFs of old pibe Dan catalogues, there I saw for the first time brakner pipes, & I was totally smitten. Then I saw Jesper mention that his best pipes were Brakner. With him being Danish & his large collection I thought, well he should know & I made sure I found one. I certainly don't regret it & im sure you won't either.. In truth, we have to be thankful for Dave & Jesper. I'd of been totally ignorant regarding Danish pipes & my love of the pipe, the poorer for it. I notice yours mark, like mine is 'sans snot spot'.
    St. Bruno simply satisfies!
