That's quite a stack you have there, Simon!

Greetings Again, Gentlemen! It's another beautiful day with clear skies and bright sunshine helping to coax out new leaves on the maple trees here as both workshop doors are wide open. Already my dear wife has modified our shopping plans and that's okay with me. More pipe time! Now sipping a bowl of HH Pure VA Flake in the Sav smooth billiard, a second mugga joe on the side.

With some more Motzek Strang safely jarred -thanks to Mark and Nigel (who messaged first but agreed to share it with me) I can afford to smoke some in a big Askwith:

This tin was kept unopened for a long time, now the time has come as this new pipe arrived today in the mail

A very late lunch with Gawith Hoggarth’s Black Irish X in the travelin’ Thermofilter beater billiard.

I grew up in a mill town in the middle of tobacco country and I think that has very much influenced my appreciation of pipes. I love the staunch dignity of old Brit pipes, the carved-by-wind-and-water curves of Danish pipes, the ignore-me-if-you-dare profiles of the Italian pipes, but I really have a soft spot for these humble, drugstore pipes and their lack of pretense. I appreciate them in the same way a farmer of old would appreciate a good work horse. They’re not intended to win beauty prizes; they’re intended to do a job and do it well.
