Two Danish Pipes That Caught My Eye

Two recently sold pipes from ebay that caught my eye. The first was an older Preben Holm pipe, not a full on "fancy freehand", well shaped, with a fairly tight control of the lines and the shaping. It sold very well, I was not a bidder.

The second pipe was newer, a Leopold, a pipe maker I'd never even heard of before.

So I learned something new. Luckily, I was sniped by a higher bid at the last second (like I need more pipes)!

What a talent? He (?) saw those pipes in the rough wood and then created them. I don't imagine too many blocks like that coming along. Those are pipes I could stare at to imagine what the original must have been.

Now, there's a Preben Holm freehand that I can love.

Nicee-looking pipes both. You should have bought them, Dave.
Leopold was at the Christmas pipe show last December, but of course I couldn't afford any of his pipes.
No, they were not overly expensive.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The saddest day of my life was when I realized "need" and "want" were not synonymous. I still can hardly believe it's true.

    Those are both lovely Dave.

Of course they are synonymous. They have to be, or else I'd never get any new pipes. Or any new tobaccos, for that matter.

I do love Preben Holm's earlier, more artistic work, and that pipe is one of the best I've seen. Honestly, I don't hate Ben Wade Freehands, it's just that they were so ubiquitous... and so 1970s!

The Leopold is a beauty, too. Just look at that plateau!
