    A Comoy‘s from Denmark

Is Denmark full of vintage Comoy‘s???

Last weekend I found an ad on eBay in Germany from a Dane who has been smoking pipes for 35 years for a near mint Blue Riband from the 1950‘s-1960‘s. Apparently he had bought it a while back but never trusted himself to smoke it, and it was simply gathering dust. So he asked some other Danes if they could sell it for him. They said they could but he would have to pay 50% commission. So he has now been trying to sell it at eBay in Germany for more than the 50% he would have received. Apparently it went up and didn‘t sell. So he reduced the price a bit and put it up again and it didn‘t sell. And he reduced the price a bit and put it up again, and I noticed it by accident.

I know so much about this because I offered him a lower price than he wanted and then we negotiated back and forth for the whole day, before agreeing on a price which made both of us unhappy.

He was actually selling a second Comoy‘s, again one which he had never smoked because it was too special. But that is another thread.

I bought the two pipes on Sunday night, he posted them Monday morning and they arrived today.

This is a post-WWII shape 210, which is a small Lovat. It really is near mint. And it smokes like a dream.

Metal tube inside the tenon. Looks like it may have had a coating inside the bowl and was only smoked a couple of times. Totally clean.

Dave, I was thinking of you while I was bargaining. Mostly to the tune of ‚Why does that blasted Dave always find beautiful pipes for under $25?????

Congrats, Mark, on one fine old pipe.

After all of the statistics and reports are finished with, I've come to the conclusion that the only real danger of smoking a pipe is being interrupted.
