Made a couple of accidental pipes for myself..

Made a couple of pipes that were supposed to be for customers, but a flaw and an accident means I couldn't send them out, so I finished them for myself. Then made 2 more. It'll be a good experiment to see how long these last.
The small goblet has a giant fissure in the bowl, and a dark spot on the outside where the fissure is, so it's weak. I plugged the fissure with charcoal and maple syrup and baked it on. Be interesting to see the longevity.
The flared tulip I screwed up by myself by pulling the lathe tool away at an angle and broke the shank off. Epoxied it on, repair is invisible, also be interesting to see the longevity of the repair.

Good way to build your collection by smoking your mistakes. Fine looking pipes, too.

Hard to notice. I know if it's any consolation to find out that a piece of wood won't cut it right before you finished it. Bummer.

Thank you for the generous comments men. Yes, I must say it is gratifying to smoke them, although I didn't particularly want to make them all over again after the issues arose. Fortunately they all smoke very well since I stumbled on some really good briar to start with, albeit the odd flaw here and there, but that doesn't effect the smoke..

You're right, I did say I'd get together a bunch of my airplane pics. Have to get off my duff and pull 'em out of my other hard drive.

You are Steve! Take her up to a good height, 10,000 ft should do it. Point the old girl in a straight line, & nip out for a stretch & a smoke. You must of seen that film 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines'. Don't forget 'Ze Book of Instructions', invaluable! Good luck & jolly smoggo!
