    History of oriental tobacco

    Hello,

    I have just received the latest newsletter of the French speaking pipe Newsgroup Fumeurs de pipe.

    On the website, they have a nice account of the history of oriental tobaccos.

    It is in French, but the Google Translator produces a very well readable English and German version.

    Here is the link that you can copy into the translator for your reading pleasure:

    Best wishes

    This is a fascinating read, even if you are not an Oriental tobacco fan. I'm only about halfway through it.

    Interesting fact: The plantations were fro the most part very small in some cases and at all elevations with traditional family secrets. Tobacco was separated by where it was grown by elevation

    A great read, Markus.
    I do like orientals very much and I smoke McConnells 'Pure Orient' with great pleasure;
    unfortunately, it's not available here, but I order it from Esterval's.
    Thanks very much for sharing the link.
