I like to keep my cob tops clean and polished to a glass like finish. Trying to show the glass like sheen in this pic, but it is there.

2 more pics of the glass like finish on my cob tops. Sand them down with 800 grid sandpaper then I use 1000 grid. Then I use a t-shirt or some other kind of cloth to buff them out and polish them to a glass like finish, Just the tops only. I use this same method for my briars, once the tops no longer have a nice shine. Don't need to sand much.

No, I am still thinking about what to break it in with. I want to use a tobacco thats plentiful and always around. Or is that being too picky? lol. What do you recommend Russ? I don't want to put any Aromatics in it, so I will go through all my tobaccos, and pick out the non-Aros and see whats left. I luv Presby, but thats reserved for my Stanwell and only on Sundays.......for real. As soon as I have the right tobacco, I'll be ready for take off.

Try something like a VaBur...Three Friars, Haunted Bookshop, etc.

I don't polish my cobs, I just swab out the bowl with a paper towel and run a few pipe cleaners through and it's good to go for the next bowl. Here's what one of my Cobbler looks like after less than 2 months of daily smoking. As you can see the rim has darkened up nicely from charring, haha. I don't care, it's a cob, I bought it to smoke and smoke it I do.

I have seen haunted bookshop before and I am now curious about it. Think I'll give it a try.

I guess I just like the way it looks clean, and inviting to mess up again. Lol

    Freehand Officially Broke In

Ok, I did it. I decided to break it in with Super Value Whiskey Cavendish for now. Got 12 oz of it. I took it off the plaque since the hanger clip was scratching the shank a bit, and put it on a pipe stand in front of the plaque. It smokes great and the bowl fits nicely in my hand, much like my WizardCob. Russ/coalsmoke suggested Haunted Bookshop which I will give a try as soon as I order. Sounds like a mystery smoke befitting for a wizard. Lol. I really like the cob, and it looks great as a hanger.

All Set Up & Ready To Smoke

This is how I set up my freehand. Sitting in a dragon stand on a haunted bookshop, between 2 meers skulls, too cracked to smoke. I glued them there on the table. I will try to keep Haunted Bookshop around for this pipe, as availability allows. I wouldn't be a good wizard without it.
