Unusually, the MPs have it right, Joe! The BeeB, like all the media, just try to sensationalise anything - even the weather!

This morning, low-carb diets are bad for you - last week it was just the opposite!!

I've been following this thread and I say bravo on your analysis of the BBC article, Chris.

Why thank you, Russ. But it's just what I used to do as part of my 'day job', when I had many requests to review/critique articles for potential publication; although I did not accept such requests from that particular journal ("The American Review of Respiratory Disease.....", Yes) - call me a snob, if you like - and IMO they have seriously bolloxed up!

With my own team, I used to have a "journal club", where we 'mock-critiqued' important published papers. IMO this exercise improved the quality of our own published work. The 'study' in my OP would never have made the cut, and I believe the journal will regret the day they published it as it stood.

And, for Dave's benefit, I state this publicly as "Chris Haslett, Professor of Respiratory Medicine (1990-), University of Edinburgh."
