Everyone can attend university here as long as you complete your schooling. However you have to support yourself which keeps numbers down. As for me...I went to the University of Life.

The lack of street public toilets is interesting. I seem to remember there being public lavs dotted all over the place in Glasgow when I was a boy.....many of which were subterranean. While using the one in St Enoch Square you could clearly hear and feel the subway trains passing on the other side of the urinal wall. Most if not all of them closed as the years went by. Much rather use the ones in shopping centres and stores anyway....at least they're heated in winter.

You could nip into a local pub, but the landlord will not welcome this unless you are also buying, and to be honest I avoid pub cludgies like the plague (think Trainspotting, movie or novel)
I have the visual! The homage scene in T2 (great movie) was very well done.

The original book by Irvine Welsh is even better! Also educational, with regards Scots street slang! LOL

Here in the States, there are grants, scholarships, financial assistance, and plenty of colleges, both on the community and state level. As for public (ahem) "accomodations" are concerned, there are plenty of chain retail fast-food places that don't care if you use their facilities and don't buy anything. Those are always my first choice because I'm on blood pressure maintenance medication and have to go rather frequently. The cities are the worst for quickly finding such a necessary place; "customer use only", etc. I've gone so far as to keep a "male urinal" under the front seat of my car!

Dave's Funniest Joke of the [Edinburgh] Fringe Award 2018

It's pretty good, but I prefer No. 3:

"In my last relationship, I hated being treated like a piece of meat. She was a vegan and refused to touch me" - Daniel Audritt

I don't bother with the Fringe these days; it's overblown, overpopulated and overpriced !!

I used to watch a lot of shows when I was a student - 1 a ticket (2 max.). I remember seeing Rowan Atkinson's very first stage performance as part of the "Cambridge Footlights Review". He did two sketches, one of a tramp sitting on a bench picking his nose (hilarious) and another of a school teacher taking the class register - gut-bustingly funny - a sketch which he has refined over the years and still performs. I think I'd better post that in the Other Place - watch his timing, incredible!!

Yep that would tip the scales alright, in all fairness though this is set at a very good price, in our local chippy it's nearly a tenner for just a fish supper.
