An email from my brother yesterday,
IMG_3367.jpgIMG_3369.jpgIMG_3371.jpgCaught this Mahi about 22 miles south of Montauk Pt. on Sept 16 with 9 weight fly rod and sluggo-looking fly. Saw at least 9 fish this size or bigger around the high flyers but all the rest had lock jaw. One tried to eat a smaller Mahi I had on right at the boat. 5 of these torpedoes repeatedly came out to the boat from one high flyer rig almost as if they were trying to intimidate me, but they wouldn't eat. Big Mahis to boat: "next time bring us some real fish instead of chucking this fake food at us!!!".
Caught 25 total. Could have caught many more if I wasn't targeting the bigger fish. It's 40" between the two rod racks holding the fly rods in the last picture. I released this fish. Didn't feel like cleaning it and had other plans for dinner.
Best Mahi day this season!
