Although not a great fan of either (nor for that matter a lover of the Great Danes), in conversation, R C Hacker to Rick Newcombe aptly described Sixten Ivarsson as "The Thomas Edison of Pipe Making".

Hehe, so it does matter to to Scotsman. Another stereotype blown out of the water.

Not being a native Scot, I can't imagine what you are implying, Thomas . But I doubt Crawford has any particular preference

Chris, I hope the pipe will give you joy. Like Jim I am no fan of the Danish either. I once had a SI designed Stanwell-
it was expensive enough, I had to pay over two times - but it was a bad smoker. I later gave it to my daughter to use as a hammer.
I have had one smooth Ivarsson Product stamped pipe. I bought it for 33 kr ( £ 4 ). I shall not bore anyone to tell how I got it,but I sold it on a clubauction for 600 kr. The buyer was a member from Sweden. He was happy and I was happy.

Thank you, Jorgen, It already has! I love stealing a march on the 'collectors', and I think they missed this one. I am an enthusiast not a collector and you will have seen that I have catholic tastes in pipes.

Like you and Jim, I am not enamoured of the Danish free-hands, but I have always loved my 50's Stanwells - an era before the Danes started sprouting weird stems and deformed bowls.

The current Ivarssen I think Iíll like: it is not too weird and I can see part of its evolution from some of the Ivarsson-designed Stanwell pipes of the 50's.

    The "Warrson" pipe is here!

I'm happy now to call it a 1961 "Ivarsson Product" sandblast, shape #19.

It is in almost perfect condition - just a tiny chip in the top of the button and a very slight groove on the inner shank where presumably a pipe cleaner has been passed.

The inner bowl is in excellent order and it does not seem to have been heavily smoked.

Despite a moderately large bowl, the pipe weighs only 40g. With the bend and broad stem, it should be an easy clench.

Apart from the seller's pics, no further ones from me just now - wife's camera still not working, but I'm bloody certain it will be in time for Christmas!

A final question for Detective Dave - what do the other shank stampings (seen in seller's pics) signify?
