My eighth Peterson arriving today - I hope!

I recently won the bidding on ebay for this "PETERSON K&P 209 LONDON MADE - 1949". That guy in Philly shipped it to me in record time - the USPS parcel acceptance is listed in the tracking info as 1:49 a.m. on November 23! And I think that we're in the same time zone!

I love the older Petes, and this one really caught my eye. I think that the 1949 date puts it right on the cusp of pre- and post-Republic, but I don't know a lot about dating Petes. I should by now, but I don't; I just know I like the older ones that look like this.

Really nice pipe, Ed. Honestly, it's kind of hard to get a bad pipe from that era.

Congrats, Ed! I particularly like the finish color on the bowl. I like the Petes from that era as well and someday I'll add one.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Piffyr and coal, when you mention that era, do you mean pre-Republic or Republic? But honestly, I'll take a serious look at a Pete as long as it was made prior to 1990, with some notable exceptions. All I ask is a decently engineered stummel of decent briar and a stem with a tenon that fits all the way into the mortise without getting stuck.

I'm partial to the Pre-Republic Petes, but I'm an equal-era kind of guy.

I can't speak for Russ, but I wasn't referring to Peterson pipes specifically. I meant UK manufactured smoking pipes in general, from the 15-year period leading up to WWII to the same time span following it, roughly speaking. The overall quality across that industry was, in my opinion, the highest it was ever to be.
