Christmas Stuff - Lights, trees, Parties, Family............Angst

Starting to see Christmas Stuff appearing in posts and wondered if it might be worth a separate thread?

    - Tree has to be 'real', not artificial, family insists! Ours arrives a week today. We buy it through the local scout group (not the usual scalpers); the scouts get the profit (I used to be a boy scout myself). Missus and D#2 will dress the tree (a ritual!) while I supervise!!

    - Christmas lights will be tested sometime this weekend!!!

    - Missus says decorations must go up (precisely) 2 weeks before the day.

    - I have three work-related Christmas lunches and two parties this month (gawd!!)

    - In-laws will eat with us a couple of days before.

    - We will have Christmas dinner alone, but son and d-i-l will visit and eat that evening (and bring daft toys for the dog)

    - D#2, s-i-l and Wee Paddy (who is hilarious at the moment) will stay with us for three days from 28th

Then I'm fecking off to Gran Canaria - R&R

I'll be having a Christmas tree in the Howf this year, got 3 whisky baubles to hang from it and will drink them on the 22nd 23rd and 24th, we'll put the tree up about 10 days before the big day.

Samantha and Kevin are joining us for Christmas dinner this year, last year was there place so I'll feel a lot comfier this time, Roast Turkey and all the trimmings, Christmas Pudding and Trifle, Port after Dinner.

It seems there are as many rules for hanging decorations as there are women, who as wives become the authority on such matters. Our lights cannot go up until they light the grand tree in the town hall square. To do so before would be showing them up. Since we moved into an apartment our artificial tree is now 4 1/2 feet shorter than it used to be, compact living. However we now put up some where around 3x as many blinking lights. Doilies and Christmas themed serviettes are next on the list. There is also the welcoming ornament on our apartment door which is at the end of the hall and may be noticed by 10 or so people between now and Christmas. Nothing like a "discussion" on how these things are to be placed to get you right into the spirit of the season.

Great idea with the whisky baubles, Ally!! Next year could make a massive Whisky Advent Calendar and start on December 1st.

If I disguised myself as Santa, I could join you in the howf!! LOL

A bit like the real tree, turkey (not my favorite bird - much prefer goose) is obligatory here as well.

I always find something else to do when the Queen's Speech is on telly!

Yes indeed, Bill. There is only ONE way and that is THEIR way!

At least our tree is delivered these days. Until a couple of years' back I had to get a ruddy 11 foot tree into the car, then herniate myself humping it into the house, than hold the fecker still while she decided it was perfectly perpendicular!!

Go up here for Grandson#1's birthday in a week or so - daughter has bought a wooden (from logs) reindeer though - pictures anon.

To keep in the spirit though, the smaller dogs have hung up their Christmas stockings:
