Hello Mike welcome to PSU from Pickering Ontario, originally Shropshire. Ally's advice on the samples will save you money and disappointment. Taste beats description every time. Hope you have fun here,

My original post got buggered up when I tried to edit a false link (403 error) so a re-post:

Hi from Jim in North Yorkshire.

Digger was a blend of Virginia and Burley so that's where you search starts

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. are the best UK supplier of these blends; a good start is Brown Flake Unscented

Also worth a shot is MacBaren's version of Original (Walnut) Flake or, for a stronger smoke, HH Old Dark Fired..

My earlier post went wrong when I tried to insert links to e-suppliers and Tobacco Reviews so I'll have to post those for you to search yourself:

I have never had Digger Flake, so I went to Tobacco Reviews to get some idea of what you were looking for. I like Condor, but I think for many it is an acquired taste.

I hope you can find what you are looking for. I originally found the online forums looking for a replacement for Amphora Red. I found a bad match, but I tried a few other things and don't miss the Amphora any more. Now that Amphora is available in the US again, my wife buys me a pouch from time to time just for old times sake (I think the room note reminds her of our youth.).

Hello Mike & welcome to the forum.
You'll struggle to find anything as nice as digger nowadays. Like the boys say, samples are the way to go. St. Bruno shouldn't be burning hot & quick, so first off I'd recommend you give that another go. Both the flake & ready rubbed. Other 'must try' ones are dark birds eye & bosun flake, from G&H. Along with Rich Dark Flake from Germains. Hope you find something that 'does it' for you.
    St. Bruno simply satisfies!
