I started gilding from about the age of eleven, shown the ropes by my father. Working with aluminium, silver & gold leaf of varying carats. So in this rare instance, I know what I'm talking about. Even with all the modern methods, nothing beats the effect of gold leaf, in my opinion. Although I wouldn't want to see it on any of my pipes. Having said that, I've still got lots of gold leaf in my shed. If pluggers wants his petersons 'pimped up' or if Crawford wants his falcon to look beautiful. I'm the man that can.

Interesting stuff gilding Simon. Fascinating to watch how they do it...steady hands needed so not something you'd be doing after a heavy session in the pub I would have thought?
