    A Pipers Memories

Just a bit of nonsense for you all

"Twas time to think, to ponder
to let my mind a wander
over hills and streams a yonder
where my childhood use to roam

    Tall grass is a swaying
as I spent my youth a playing
'neath the Oak tree, leaves a fading
this place that I call home

    Picking berries, skipping stones
    chasing rabbits all alone
    suns a fading, almost gone
whilst the wagtail sings his song

    Mothers calling me for dinner
through the front gate like a winner
bang the back door like a sinner
    glad that I am home

    Roast lamb, Gravy, Carrots
    sisters chattering like parrots
    Tatoes', Beans and Brussel Sprouts
    fit for King and Throne

Thank the lord now for this blessing
    this food now we're addressing
eat it all now, don't be messin'
    what my Father used say

Then the evening, quiet and calm
    Father talking bout' the farm
    Mother spinning woollen yarn
    whilst the firelight danced away

    What memories, times a trottin'
    places, friends are ner' forgotten
all these things loves tied a knot in
ahh the memories of my home

Then my eyes cast to the Briar
    this smouldering little fire
    swirls of smoke ascending higher
then I slowly shake my head

Tis' the magic of the art
    that sets pipers quite apart
our souls merging with our hearts
    Tis' something only pipers know

So as you light that briar
    think about that fire
    smoke about you, rising higher
let thoughts wander through your head

    Enjoy the gifts and treasures
    lifes simple, splendid treasures
    something no one ever measures
    memories of your home

I have to be honest. I hated poetry class. I think every body did.

A fine tribute to your memories of home, Paul.

Love the poem, and the nostalgic images of days gone by, that the words evoke. Thanks for stirring some long forgotten memories. Now, at my age...everything is just a memory.

    Thanks....
