    I'm running Window 10 Home

and switched from Firefox to Chrome with new laptop
added - AdBlock Plus and ''New tabs to the Front''
Does what it says on the box - and no problems/errors etc

tried Microsoft EDGE ---- but still choose Chrome

    FWIW YMMV
    .

    FWIW

wasted so much time overcoming this problem

if you are running Windows 10 with its built-in DEFENDER Anti-Virus
be aware that Defender will use its 'Block Changes to Folders' to stop changes to the system

a good idea - except when trying to install an alternate AV suite
    - in my case BitDefender ( I hesitate to rely on Defender success % )

    Option 1..Controlled Folder Access
let Defender block any *.exe file that BitDefender is trying to install
it will be 'flagged' in Notifications - goto Windows Security - Virus Protection -
    - click Manage Ransomware Protection - allow an App through-------
then Add an Allowed app -- choose Recently Blocked Apps - Add an Allowed app -
    - Recently Blocked - Add the BitDefender\***\....exe file

BE CAREFUL ...ONLY ADD what you are trying to Install

Option 2...go as far as 'Manage Ransomware Protection'
    then Uncheck Protected Folders
    install your App
    then turn it back ON

Bitdefender has many top reviews - takes several hours to runs its First Scan
but then puts all 'clean' files into its cache and does scan them on its next run
unless they have been altered. My first scan took over 2 hours..!
