Got this pouch whilst travelling through Belgium, couple of years ago.
'Caporal' an old school, no nonsense blend from our onion munching pals, across the channel. A French institution, now of course made by mcbarens in Denmark.(like everything else)
You can't really tell from the photo, but it's a ridiculously fine cut. Like candy floss! Burns hot & fast, singes the nostrils & rattles the brain. Quite different from anything I've ever smoked before....somewhat recommended.

Doesn't Caporal also make cigarettes? Maybe it's a pipe version of their cigarette tobacco.

Gitanes is another cigarette in that style.
If you know the Blend Five Brothers, you have a good idea what the traditional French tobaccos taste like. I've smoked Five Brothers at Jim's place once, and it was just the same as Gauloises to me, which I have frequently smoked in the pipe (yes, the rolling tobacco).
Caporal used to be sold in cube shaped packaging, more like envelope paper, nothing to prevent drying out. See the top left photo, in the foreground:

I'd say, choose a small pipe, pack firmly and puff slowly. That worked for me with Gauloises rolling tobacco. Gauloises is much milder than it used to be 20 years ago, when it was really dark, strong and capable of itching the walls inside your stomach. But even with the modern version, it's good idea to eat a bit before smoking this.

Like Markus says, similar to our brown twist. It also reminds me of the stronger Dutch shag tobaccos in places. Not as good as either of those of course, because it's.....well.....it's French!
If it's cheap - and knowing you it will have been - then it sounds ok. The French do seem to produce some strange things and give them fancy sounding names.What's it taste like?....Rough!
