They have said that the thick cardboard insert is to prevent the tin edges getting squashed and thus losing seal - a previous problem with SG tins.

Good Sunday Morning, Gentlemen! It's one degree above freezing here and everything is covered in light snow that fell yesterday and last night with more on the way soon. The first pipe of my day is HH Pure VA Flake in the Pete "Rosslare 106" and there's a fresh mugga coffee on the tobacco table.
