Why don't we have a "Don't like button"?

    Hello,

I have consistently never used the like button because I couldn't be bothered. I would end up "liking" 90 or 95% of the posts, and that would mean a lot of thinking and clicking to eventually provide as much information as if I don't start it in the first place.

So to everyone who "liked" my posts and haven't had theirs liked back by me, it's nothing personal

    Best wishes
    Markus

No offence taken by me Markus. You make a good point about it becoming a time-wasting habit.

Some use it just to bookmark where they're at in reading a thread.
Some like to selectively pick and choose to click it only when they really like something in a post.

Overall, like buttons act on humans psychologically and provide a dopamine hit and it's been well researched in how it addicts people to social media use.

Me, I like everyone's posts and use it also as a sort of bookmarker to know I've read to that point in the posts within a thread. It would overall be better without it, but we're already used to it. (and addicted to it)

It signals to the poster you've read what they wrote.

I have never liked the 'like' feature in forums; mainly, because it can be used in a negative passive aggressive away, and is otherwise largely a waste of time. I only use it because I want people to know I'm reading the forum, even if I'm not posting.
