How's it compare to Hal O' The Wynd (my present favourite Rattrays Va.)?

I think their very close Jim, maybe a bit more perique in HOTW, that's what comes across to my taste anyway!

Just had a delivery from my pal, [email protected]:

    - 1000 pipe cleaners, and...

    - 3 tins Rattray's Brown Clunee, and...

    - 200g (loose) GH Dark Brirdseye.

Hoping the latter two live up to their billing!!

I did the same, Chris, following Ally and Simon's recommendations.

The Brown Clunee is superb but I didn't like the DBE (not the strength - that's OK - but the taste) but I'm enjoying it mixed with a lighter Va, such as Oide Signe or BBF.

Just ordered from GQ; 2/Brown Clunee, 2/Hal O' The Wynd, and components for a new mix of Homebrew (2/Bruno, 1/Condor, 1/Gold Block - got the other components in stock).

PS: the Dark Birdseye is going into the Homebrew mix!.

PPS: re. Condor - OK for me when in a mix (no, Chris- not 100 to one!); got to learn it when, as a mean Yorkshireman (think Scots with all the generosity squeezed out), it was, with Bruno, all you could get duty free from UK airports.

Life was better when flying to the Far East via Amsterdam.

As my stock of Condor is running out I've been mixing it with other blends. I've been pleasantly surprised to find how even a small pinch of it can still give you that Condor moment.

Didn't know they still sold Gold Block. What's it like on its own Jim?

They do - but it's crap compared to Ogdens many years ago. Works as a lightener in the mix though (as does modern crappy UK Capstan RR).

My uncle smoked Bruno/Gold Block half and half - "Ogdens Mixture"

Mind you, Condor is no longer the powerhouse of "that Condor moment" way back when.

Even nostalgia isn't what it used to be!
