Plumped for this 2001 Brunello de Montalcino to go with the chicken. Still corked and coming up to room temp. I'll decant it an hour before we eat, as I don't like to decant old wines for too long.

Celebrating with Aldi champagne (for now) and an interesting Sicilian white with the fish:

In ten mins, the missus and I will be drinking this 1996 Comtes de Champagne

We agree that this is the best champagne we have ever tasted - and the missus is a much better judge then I am. The current street value is 6x more than when I bought it - which is why I try not to think about these things when we crack a bottle like this.

For dinner, she is cooking her famous honey chicken - basically sliced chicken breast that has been marinated in soy sauce, honey and garlic. It is then stir-fried with spring onions and served with rice.

To accompany this will be my last bottle of this white Graves (basically sauvignon blanc), which goes well with oriental food but otherwise I don't much like, despite it being a grand cru.

Daughter's doing roast pork but needed a red wine - special Rioja should work:

What to drink? What to drink?

I usually start before/with a meal and continue afterwards. So to start, having eaten, puts me in a quandary.

Decided on this very smooth, fine red Rhone - it will go well with the pipe:

Okay, I've gone and done it now! The wine below is entry-level CNdP - but in top vintages (like 2010, here) you would be hard put to be disappointed. This is slightly on the 'rustic' side but excellent for the money.

Wino's tip - if the bottle is cold (as this was), microwave it for one minute then let it rest. No longer though, we don't want mulled wine before Halloween! LOL

Thanks Jim, It is going very well with the pipe. I contemplated opening a bottle of port, but I have an 08.00 meeting tomorrow! LOL
