Good idea. I may try mixing Behlen's brown and red powders with Superglue, Epoxy, and whatever else they recommend - for briar patches. Another experiment in the making.

Joyal, thanks for shareing this. The Behlen powder (from the looks of your pics) looks to set up a lot like the Gorilla (Cryanolate superglue) glue and activated charcoal that I've been using for quite a while now. This is not meant at all to do anything except add yet another option. I've done well over 100 bit repairs with this method.

Hare a few pics from a recent repair of a real challenge - tip bitten thru top and bottom. Seller told me that he was going to hack off 1/2 inch and rebuilt the button. I wanted the old pipe (from the 50's) in as close to original vintage shape as possible, so I asked him to leave it be. :-)

    c1.JPG

Double thickness cereal box cardboard, cut to the exact shape needed for the form. Covered in the 'shiny' type scotch tape - superglue will not adhere to this.

    c2.JPG

This repair took 2 applications of the mixture to cover it all well enough. It's quick...sets up and is hard in just several minutes.

    c3.JPG

    Filed to shape, wet sanded.

Buffed. All of these repairs are holding well on my pipes as well as for those I've done them for.

Wow, Joe, very nice results. Another good option - especially for us impatient types :)

Joe, thanks for showing that repair and another option. I will get some of that Gorilla glue and add it to my stem repair kit.

Does the Gorilla glue set faster on its' own (compared to Superglue) or does the activated charcoal cause it to set quickly?

Also, I would like to compare the strength of the various options against each other. Can you think of a way to test that?
