A Pipe by Sixten Ivarsson 1963

I always find seeing a pipe like this interesting. Carved by Sixten Ivarsson in 1963. Anyone who owns some of the early Stanwell's can see elements of the same creative shaping in this pipe, that are seen in many of the designs Ivarsson did for Stanwell. And remember, in terms of thinking of the evolution of pipe design, this was in 1963. No association with the seller.

The pipe in the middle is some variant of the Stanwell 70.

The bottom pipe here is a Stanwell shape, too. Can't recall the number, though.

As I recall, the Ukelele Stanwell shape numbers are 91 and 92. The 92 being smaller (ok, I had to look that part up!).

    Isn't that the Peewee shape?

I sold an Ivarsson pipe last year for DKR. 50,000... That is USD 8,385.

Paid DKR. 500 / USD 83,85 for it on a flea market.
    With kind regards, Bo

I must be a total peasant because I've never liked the "Great Dane" pipes; I acknowledge their place in the history of pipe making but have never coveted a Bo Nordh, either Ivarsson or Jess Chonowitsch pipe - the notable exception would be a S. Bang squat bulldog.

To tell you the truth, Poul Ilsted is the only Danish pipe maker whose work convinces me 100 %... His pipes are out of this world, both in terms of perfect shape and most excellent smoking quality.

The Stanwell 37 and 70 (both Ivarsson designs) are two of the coolest pipes ever made (IMHO). I love them for when I'm writing -- both are great sitters and feel great in hand.
