JOHN COTTON No. 47 7 Frederick St Edinburgh Scotland

Just had to do it... I know John Cotton made tobacco, but I'm assuming this is from one of the English companies. I'm going to have to look at some shape charts. I nice Saddle Billiard. Maybe it will be reserved for some of the STC blends when they are released later this year!

Very nice, Dave. That's the first John Cotton pipe that I've seen. Quite the timely acquisition. I wonder what the story is behind those.

Inquiries are ongoing...my assumption is this pipe was made by one of the English (or maybe it would be more politic to say British) pipe companies as a private label. Looking at it, on first impressions, I would RULE OUT Charatan's (their 47 shape is quite different), Barling's (shape 47 a taper stemmed poker) Comoy's (font for the shape number), Sasieni (I would expect the shape number to be in a different location). Also, not Parker, their shape 47 was a bent, didn't find anything in the Orlik shapes either.

I'll be interested on your findings Dave, looks very Barling like to me though, but then again what do I know.

John Cotton went out of business as a tobacconist so long ago that we need to look at older Brit. makers; perhaps GBD?
