May or may not be from the 60s, but I doubt it. Definitely hand-carved and I think it's a safe bet that it's from pure block. Other than that, it's nearly impossible to tell you anything specific about it. The posting doesn't list any dimensions (always a warning sign), but it looks to be on the smallish side to me and the carving appears a bit crude. That makes me suspect that this one was intended more as a tourist souvenir than as a good pipe. For the price you paid, I can't say that you got "screwed", but I personally think that you should have saved up a little more and purchased from a known brand. You never know though. You may have lucked out. You'll have to let us know how it smokes when it arrives.

An easy way to tell if it's block meerschaum is to stick your tongue in to the bowl, if it sticks then it's block as the moisture in your tongue will absorb in to the pipe.

    Edit.

    Only works with unsmoked pipes!

My first comment is that the pipe likely has a very very small bowl which calls for that very low price. Please note no measurements were listed for the pipe. Always ask! Second, and a positive the vendor has many many sales and an A rating. (Doesn't mean he tells the truth.) There are no details to support this pipe is from the 60's either and I highly doubt it but that's me personally. I would not make a claim like that unless I had some form of provenance.

Me being the ignorantly trusting person my brain automatically processed it as this pipe will end up going for a hundred or more ill put in a bid and watch it and when I noticed nobody else was bidding with 30 minutes left I began to realize there was probably a reason for that and then I did a little research which said most meershaums with bright yellow stems tend to be on the lower end of price and then I found out how they "build" a block kind of like mixing clay instead of a true block like a briar block probably pretty easy to mix dust and make a pipe out of it I hope it at least smokes good I really did not think I was going to win this at all
